Nine teams from across England descended on the Xcel sports centre for the National Disabled Sports Championship. The Mayor welcomed everyone to the centre and then all set off to their various activities whether swimming, boccia, weightlifting, table tennis etc. One and a half days followed with individual and team sports and events all to earn points towards the final totals.
My own club ran the Pitstop event on the Sunday especially interesting as Lewis Hamilton was winning his formula 1 race at that time. Paul and I stayed all afternoon and watched the slalom and boccia team final before the presentations were made. I find it is advisable to take something with you to do as well as there can be long periods of waiting so this time I took my Christmas cards and got half of them written (the other half having been written the previous evening).
Many Club representatives turned up to present trophies at the presentation ceremony. It was also especially good to see Brian, the DG, and Sheila, his wife, there for the majority of the 2 day event. The final results saw Rugby oame third, Leicestershire second and the winning team was South Yorkshire & Lincolnshire.
A great event and a truly humbling experience. Well done to the team that organise it year after year - I look forward to year 31 next November.
