It was great to be driven across by Bill Bennett and to arrive amongst Rotarians I have known over the years and who have been such supporters of our Youth activities. Both Paul and I are very grateful to them for the hosting they have provided over the years to students coming on our camps (even when they had their own big events to organise).
We were made very welcome and the atmosphere was very relaxed. It was nice to be asked to make the speech early in the proceedings rather than waiting until all the club business was completed. What was nice was to hear of the club's involvement in its local community and its practical efforts to make a difference there as well as abroad.
It is several years since I came to this club regularly as a quizmaster but it was good to be amongst people I know and who reflect the ideals of Rotary so well. I just apologise to President Philip that our discussions made the end of the meeting a bit later than he wanted. However, I am sure he will agree with me that to end the meeting with hearing that the club's Ambassadorial Scholar candidate was successful in her interview to be the District's student for next year made it all worthwhile.
