I collected Edvinas from his host and drove over to Henley in Arden Golf Club where he was to speak. As usual, the Rotary Club members were exceedingly welcoming to us both and I could leave Edvinas to talk comfortably to the Rotarians while making sure the equipment worked. It was great to return to this Rotary Club where I always receive a lovely welcome. Tonight I returned with Edvinas, our Youth Exchange student, who had visited the club before when the Ambassadorial Scholars spoke. However, today was his turn to speak. I managed to get home in time to collect Edvinas to take him to the meeting of Leamington Spa Regency where he was due to speak. After having a little technical difficulty I managed to get the computer to 'talk' to the data projector and we were all set to start. Jo Cross organised an evening on behalf of the Godiva Group to give Coventry based Rotarians the chance to meet our Youth Exchange Student, Edvinas. A group of 15 of us gathered at Hearsall Golf Club. We started the evening with Edvinas' talk so that people would feel they knew him a bit when it came to socialising afterwards. Whilst Youth Exchange Students and Ambassadorial Scholars are expected to do several speeches they do not always have to be to Rotary Clubs. On this occasion Edvinas spoke to a church group that monthly looks at different countries - their food and culture. So a few members of the group made Lithuanian food (Edvinas was chief taster as he does not cook) for us all to try. It was great to take Edvinas to my own club to do his first speech. When I got home before the meeting we ran through it so that Edvinas knew what he was saying and we could check the slides. I have to say he was a better option for the club than listening to me talk which was the original plan. Edvinas did a great job talking about Lithuania and himself and detailing what he is doing here. He managed to put some humour into it and it was a very professional...

On our return from Scotland we invited Chrissy and Eric Dance over for dinner so that they could meet the two Youth Exchange and RYLA lads in our home. We have all got on well right from preparing for our respective years as District Governor and Inner Wheel Chairman and have great fun whenever we get together - this evening was no different.

Having collected Riccardo from Gatwick 2 days before (RYLA student we hosted in previous year) and Edvinas (long term Youth Exchange student) the week before that we headed off to Scotland for 5 days. We spent the first evening and following morning in Edinburgh leaving the lads to tour the city while we bought the food for the days we were to spend further south in a castle. It is always great to have a student come back and visit. I took the long drive down to Stansted to be there to meet Jan Philipp, a student from our camp last year, off his flight from Dusseldorf. We got back in time to go out to a BBQ held by a church group. We didn't do too well in the first round of the quiz but then improved as the rounds went on.

This was supposed to be the final evening for the Lithuanian Exchange students but due to volcanic ash in the atmosphere and no planes flying they are not on their way home yet. However, the evening went on and a great time was had by all. The eight frogs were let out of their box and were attached to the string needed for them to be pulled along the ground - I hasten to add no frogs were hurt during the evening (although it is reported that one lost an eye!).

We took 4 of the New Generations Exchange Team from Lithuania to Solihull St. Alphege Rotary Club where as usual we received a great welcome. The team members moved around all the tables and got to know the club members really well. There was a lot of laughter around the tables especially as the Lithuanians joined in the conversations and jokes.

A minibus and car full of people (13) and their luggage set off for Glasgow. The team was made up of 6 Lithuanian New Generation Exchange Team members, 1 Japanese Ambassadorial Scholar, 1 ex Japanese Ambassadorial Scholar, 1 Malawian ex Ambassadorial Scholar, 1 Brazilian friend from church, Paul's dad and the two of us.

It was nice to be accompanied by Geoff Green, President of Bedworth Club and Jo Cross of Coventry Breakfast Club as we went down to Stansted to collect our New Generations Team from Lithuania. Geoff very kindly drove us down in a minibus so we could all travel together.

It was great to meet up with a few members of Paul's Rotary Club to plan the Frog Racing evening for the trip of the Lithuanian New Generations Exchange Group who will be with us in April. Whilst Paul and I will take them to Scotland for a week and take them to the RIBI conference they will have the chance to visit a few clubs and a local school. We took Hana and Niki (from the Czech Republic) and Asca and Maiko (2 Ambassadorial Scholars) to St. David's on the Pembrokeshire Coast for a couple of days. A lovely Landmark Trust property became our home for our time there with the most fantastic view over St. David's Cathedral. Paul, I and Andrew Page met with 2 outbound New Generations students from Bewdley who are hoping to go and spend between 10 and 12 weeks in Brazil working in veterinary practice and in South Africa working at a children's home. Both students prepared a presentation in advance of the meeting - both were very good and only needed a little tweaking.
Their mothers were with us as well so that they could talk through their daughters' experiences and needs in advance of their trips.
