For a change I got to a meeting early so was able to have something to eat before the meeting began. There are many aspects to the Youth programmes so there was a lot of business to cover. Plans for the coming year as well as the present status of projects were discussed. A seminar is planned for the beginning of July so discussions about its layout and content was had. A rushed journey got me to the Arden Hotel for the New Generations/Youth Opportunities Committee meeting. This committee covers many areas - all the youth competitions and areas including Rotaract, Interact and RYLA. There is a lot going on in the District for young people and a lot of people working hard to give them great opportunities. A good number of Rotarians attended the New Generations Seminar at Arden Hotel which was encouraging. We were also joined by Donna Wallbanks who is the RIBI Chairman for New Generations. It was great to see her there especially as it would be a few hours journey home for her. Different members of the committee gave information on the youth competitions and opportunities available. Although always a rush from work I did manage to get to the committee meeting just in time. A few new members and for me an easy change to member and not leader of a committee. The main focus was the seminar in July. We all have our areas to talk about briefly and then discussion groups to follow. We all now have preparations to make for the evening and hope people come.

This was supposed to be the final evening for the Lithuanian Exchange students but due to volcanic ash in the atmosphere and no planes flying they are not on their way home yet. However, the evening went on and a great time was had by all. The eight frogs were let out of their box and were attached to the string needed for them to be pulled along the ground - I hasten to add no frogs were hurt during the evening (although it is reported that one lost an eye!).
