GSE Team Dinner

Apr 10, 2011 6:00 PM
A lovely evening to host the GSE team who went on our behalf to New Zealand last year. Paul spent the afternoon preparing the main course whilst I caught some sun in the garden and then I prepared the deserts. Three of the team made it with partners. It was great to hear of the fun they had whilst away last year and to see a few pictures from the trip. Made me even more certain I want to visit New Zealand. It was a lovely relaxed evening and it was great to see a group that still...

Evening with GSE Team

Oct 13, 2010 7:15 PM
David Clayfield of Arbury Club invited us to spend the evening with him and some of the GSE team. It was nice to be in his home and get to know 3 team members informally. I took our Youth Exchange student with me so that there might be some cultural exchanges during the evening, We certainly learnt something about each other's country and culture and the video of their area of Brazil was great to see. We had a lovely supper provided by David and another member of his club. A relaxed...

GSE Talk at Knowle & Dorridge Rotary Club

Sep 27, 2010 6:30 PM
Sometimes getting from Nottingham can be a real challenge and tonight was one of those occasions. I only just got to the hotel at the start of the Knowle and Dorridge Rotary Club meeting. It was good to be back amongst friends and I was made very welcome. I wanted to be there to hear the GSE team as they were the team that did me and the District proud in New Zealand. I enjoyed their talk last time I heard it and tonight was another occasion to take a look at the wonderful photos they...

Kayaking with GSE Team

Apr 4, 2010 1:00 PM
Although clouds threatened as I travelled out through Nuneaton the journey across to Burton held no rain and in fact the whole afternoon was very pleasant. We all turned up for 1pm at the Canoe Club and were kitted out in kagools, bouyancy aids, kayaks and paddles. The scariest bit was getting into the kayak and then staying upright. Once you got used to the movement of the kayak it became more fun and a really enjoyable experience. The killer was the top of my arms which I am sure I...

GSE Debriefing Meeting

Nov 4, 2009 11:15 AM
Peter Ramage, Carolyn McLaughlin and I met with the GSE Team to find out what had gone well for them and what improvements we could make to our programme for future teams. The team were very grateful for the hospitality shown to them by Rotarians in our District and the places they have seen. They enjoyed themselves at conference and really appreciated the weekend away in Edinburgh. There were some minor recommendations for improvements which we will take on board - it was very useful to...

GSE Farewell Dinner

Nov 3, 2009 7:30 PM
I was grateful to Warwick Avon Rotary Club for their kindness in allowing us to use their meeting as the Farewell Dinner for the GSE Team. A great crowd turned out to hear and see them and to wish them well on their return to New Zealand. They shared with us their final thoughts of their memories and a large number of photos of their visit. We presented them with a small gift to take back with them and people took the opportunity to say their goodbyes individually with team members. Hosts...

Warwick Rotary GSE Team Visit

Oct 28, 2009 1:00 PM
The Mayor visited the club to meet the GSE team and then gave them a few of her hours to show them around. 3 other clubs were represented by their Presidents at the meeting - Henley in Arden, Kidderminster and Leamington Spa Regency. Keith inducted a new member which was great to see who I am sure will enjoy being a member of this club. It was great to meet long established friends again and to see the activities the club is arranging. A nice way to spend the lunchtime before getting down...

Redditch Kingfisher GSE Visit

Oct 27, 2009 8:00 PM
It was good to meet up again with the GSE team at Redditch Kingfisher's meeting. We also had our outgoing team there to meet them and to see what a club presentation might look like. I was also delighted to see Wendy Moore there as she continues to support the GSE Team through their journey in our District. They were also supported by Lickey Hills and one of their prospective members. The team did a great presentation and are obviously enjoying their stay here. I think all...

GSE Team Member Interviews

Oct 3, 2009 8:30 AM
A group of five Rotarians spent the day interviewing candidates for the GSE Team at the Arden Hotel. A busy day for all of us as the candidates undertook a presentation, interview, written activity, focussed discussion and a team activity. After deliberating over the candidates performance in the elements of the interview and their team spirit four candidates were chosen to make up the team to visit New Zealand in April next year. We all agreed they will make a great team. It...

GSE Team Interview Preparation

Aug 29, 2009 1:30 PM
A couple of hours were spent organising the interview content and organisation for the GSE team members ready for October. Poor Brian Moore after offering us his home for the meeting had to miss a fair amount of the meeting due to car difficutlies but Peter Ramage and Carolyn McLaughlin were there to make sure we got  a balanced programme for the candidates. We have more candidates than places this year so we will unfortunately have to disappoint a few people but at least we have some...

GSE Team Leader Interviews

Jul 18, 2009 7:30 PM
A long day was spent at the Arden Hotel interviewing 6 Rotarian candidates for the position of GSE Team Leader to take our team to New Zealand in April 2010. Although the panel spent nearly 8 hours there the time went very quickly and the candidates made sure we were focussed all the time. Candidates were asked to make a presentation to the panel followed by an interview and a written activity. We were impressed by everyone's commitment and keeness to take on the role and their...
