Funeral of Past RIBI President, Neill Hill

Aug 12, 2011 11:15 AM
A packed church of family, friends and Rotarians was present to give Neill Hill the funeral he so richly deserved. It was full of hymns and music and wonderful tributes to him. There were several past RIBI Presidents as well as Ray Burman, this year's President, there as well as Rotarians from our District who all have many lovely memories of Neill. Tributes were given by Ron Southam on behalf of Providence Mission and David Morgan on behalf of Rotary. Liz, Neill's daughter, gave a beautiful...

District Quiz Final

May 4, 2011 7:15 PM
Paul and I had the chance to go to a Rotary event together tonight and so set off for West Bromwich for the District Quiz Final. This is the second year it has been held as a separate event with the two semi fimals and final being played on the same night and away from the District Assembly. I must admit I enjoy it as an evening. We watched Solihull play Rugby and Henley in Arden play Atherstone in the two semi finals. I must admit some questions were very hard. It was great to see Don...

District Executive Meeting

Feb 9, 2011 7:30 PM
There is often a lot of business to get through at the Executive Meeting and this meeting was no exception especially as there was the draft budget to consider and approve. Items discussed were those which required decisions as this was a business meeting and was treated as such. Whilst decisions sometimes related to things that are happening in the District now there was also the need to forward plan and consider changes needed to make the Executive and District structure work more...

District Council Meeting

Jan 12, 2011 7:00 PM
This meeting had been moved from December and it was nice to catch up with everyone after Christmas and the New Year. We had a presentation from Stouport on Severn Club about their Severn Way walk. It bought back memories of a great day when I did a 14 mile stretch of the walk (and still managed to get to the Halesowen and Rowley Regis charter night - even if a little stiff and blistered). Sandra, the Inner Wheel Chairman addressed us; we chose Cardiff as the venue for the District Conference...

President Elects' Preparation Seminar

Mar 13, 2010 9:00 AM
The Arden Hotel was the venue for the PEPs meeting for incoming Presidents. I was not able to stay long as I had another event to go to but I was able to mingle with people beforehand which is always enjoyable and stay for the opening plenary session where David Butler shared his foci and the RI theme and message. A good number of incoming Presidents attended as well as District Officers. The theme for next year is Building Communities, Bridging Continents. David shared his chosen...

District Youth Speaks Event

Mar 12, 2010 6:00 PM
Some events give you great enjoyment and hope and the Youth Speaks event tonight is one of those. It was great to see so many teams participating in the competition (a reflection of the hard work of clubs around District to get schools involved) and many Rotarians alongside teachers and parents there to encourage the teams. A wide range of topics were delivered. Many were thought provoking and it was great to hear our youth having such informed opinions. They made us laugh and think and...

District Young Chef Final

Feb 27, 2010 10:30 AM
Stratford College was the venue for the District Young Chef Final. 7 young chefs brought their produce and utensils with them (with their families in tow). 3 judges spent the morning watching them and giving them advice as they cooked a 3 course meal. Attention was not only given to the cooking but also the presentation of the food and the table. We were able to watch on a tv screen what was happening in the kitchen as the youngsters cooked and were able to take a look around their...
