A slightly cold night (but at least not as cold or icy as this time last year) which saw several Rotarians from the five Coventry Clubs assembled together to work their way around the streets of Radford with the Santa Sleigh. Several children (and adults) were pleased to see Santa (which Terry carried off so well) which made up for the houses where you knew people were in but were ignoring you. We wandered around the streets for just over two hours. It was good to work as a group...

I have lost count of how many meetings I have been out to over the past few weeks but tonight I went to Coventry Jubilee Rotary Club's meeting as Edvinas was sharing his thoughts on his year in Coventry. Paul came across as well and it was great to see Karen and Geoff Ralph from Leamington Spa Regency there as well as they have hosted Edvinas for a few weekends and have visited him in Lithuania. We had a good meal and then heard a club member give a talk about the history of...

It felt a bit strange going to a Rotary Club handover knowing that Paul had driven back up from Swindon to attend his own club's handover but we would not even get to see each other, let alone spend the evening in each other's company. I promised a long time ago to attend Coventry Jubilee's handover (before I knew when Bedworth's would be) and I keep my promises (fortunately I have a very understanding husband). I have known Warren for several years and had said I would see him...

It is always great to go and visit other Rotary Clubs. One of the District Governors from the year I was DG contacted me a few weeks ago to let me know that he had met someone at RI Convention in New Orleans who lived in Coventry and was interested in joining Rotary. So I contacted her and found out which clubs she would like to visit. This was our first visit to a club together. Although the main aim was to show her Rotary and to make her welcome at the club I was grateful that there...

I managed to get to Warwick Arts Centre early and catch up with many Rotarians. We settled into our seats at the Butterworth Hall, the lights went down and we settled to be entertained. We certainly were! There were fourteen acts, all of which were stunning, We had singers, groups, dance troupes and individuals. The evening went so quickly and the standard of performance was wonderful. The audience and judges agreed on the best act which was the Lion King performed by Coundon...

A lovely afternoon of weather hung over the Excel Sports centre where Coventry Jubilee Rotary Club was holding its summer fete. A selection of stalls and entertainment kept everybody occupied. We took my youngest niece and nephew and 2 language students who all enjoyed themselves. A pony ride was a hit but the biggest hit of all was the air balls on water where you are put inside a ball of air and launched onto the water. Unfortunately, I was wearing a skirt so could not have a go. When...

Well this was the event that wasn't really. I left the office with all good intentions of getting to Bablake School in time for the senior youth speaks competition only to get to my car to find it had a flat tyre! I had to wait in the car park on my own for over an hour for the AA man who had to hammer the wheel off in the end (at least it meant I didn't feel the pathetic woman for too long). Because my car has an emergency wheel I then could only drive at 50 miles an hour which...

It is not often a District Governor is asked to come and do his or her speech again at a club but Coventry Jubilee wanted a version of my club talk for prospective members. I tweaked it slightly but kept the same theme and some of the same text.
The evening gave people the chance to hear about the work the club does under each of its committees which gave a clear picture of the variety of work undertaken. There was also a presentation of cheques and certificates to 2 young athletes...

A fantastic day - humbling and inspiring! Several of the Coventry Clubs have been working on this event for nearly thirty years. What is amazing is to see the dedication of school staff who bring the children for the day and the dedication of the Rotarians and Rotaractors to make it a great event for all of the children.
The venue is great as it keeps the events together and so people can support each other really well with their events. It is the first time I have seen table...

It was great to only have a few miles to travel tonight and the welcome was lovely - so many people talking to me and being looked after so well for the whole evening.
It is great to see a club which is gaining many new and younger members and is very active in the service it gives. It was nice to see a prospective member at the meeting as well and know that I haven't put her off joining.
Noone seemed to drop off to sleep during the speech and it was good to discuss the club's...
