It is great when you get invited back to an event you attended as District Governor. Dave from Bewdley Club invited me to attend the Kidderminster Male Choir Concert in Stourbridge which last year had raised money for the polio campaign. Paul drove up from Swindon and I down from Nottingham to get there for a great evening out. The group sang several songs from the shows and the harmonies worked really well. The accompaniment of the thunder and lightning from outside added a...

This made a lovely evening. A slow journey home from work but I just got to the school in time for the concert. As I went in I met up with a couple of old friends I have not seen for 7-8 years so it was great to catch up with them. The Coventry Club had told me about the event as it was to raise money for the Polio campaign. A member of the club told the audience about our polio campaign and then we settled down to hear many students perform in choirs and different bands. The...

This was a chance to dress up in a ballgown but not be on duty at any point in the evening, There was no need to wear the District Governor's chain - it would never have competed with the large number of mayorial chains on display!
The event was held at the National Motorcycle Museum and as usual their catering was great. The food was lovely and the atmosphere good. The event had a large emphasis on raising money for Macmillan Nurses which it certainly did. There were several...

An event run in collaboration between Edgbaston Convention and the Botanical Gardens. A few schools took it in turns to sing carols for audiences within the Gardens. A few organisations came to run stalls outside the Carol Service room including Smethwick Rotary Club. It was nice to have the chance to relax and talk to several Rotarians and to support both clubs by buying goods from their stalls. I now have more colour in my kitchen from the plants I bought and I can wrap the presents I...

It was nice after a long day at General Council it was good to stop off on the way home and go to the Warwick Victorian Fayre with Paul. Our own Warwick and Leamington Spa Regency clubs both had stalls there. There was a really nice atmosphere and it was great to see people dressed in Victorian costume and enjoying themselves on the fairground rides, looking at all the musical organs, meeting the birds of prey and spending their money at the charity stalls.
The weather was not too...

President Kala of Coventry Phoenix said that my club would continue to support Zoe's Place this year. What was great about this evening was that her own family pulled together so many friends and contacts who made this a wonderful evening. I surprised myself with the amount of Indian food I could eat (or rather the heat of it). The colourful spectacle of stunning saris, beautiful dancing and a good cause as well made it a great evening. It was great to see people gathered (over 300)...

I was invited by Handsworth Club to attend the Sant Nirankari Mission's Sant Samagan event at Symphony Hall where His Holiness Nirankari Baba was in attendance. The mission event attracted several hundred if not over a thousand poeple to join in prayer, song and readings on the topic of living in harmony.
Unfortunately, because of other commitments I could only attend the first hour so was not able to hear His Holiness Nirankari Baba himself speak. However, the music was...
