It was nice to be able to spend an evening in the week with Paul. He had come up from Swindon this evening to come to his club's evening meeting where a woman from our church was going to talk about her missionary work in Uganda. We managed to get the equipment set up on time and enjoyed conversing over dinner together and with a few couples (as it was a partners' evening).
Helen's parents came as well to support her and seemed to enjoy the evening. Helen gave us a detailed insight into the...

Sometimes a lot of organisation has to go into getting me and Paul to events especially when students are involved and a lot of the arrangements have to be done by text because we are apart all week - tonight was no exception. It ended up with me driving to the centre of Coventry to collect Robert, our German ambassadorial scholar, whilst Paul brought Robert's girlfriend, Elisabeth, up from Swindon where she is working and going via Birmingham International station to collect Donelle, our...

It is years since I have participated in a safari meal. I used to do a lot when in Rotaract and did one in Holland when visiting Rotarians there. Paul got home early to prepare the main course which we left on a low heat while we went out for our starter. At six thirty we opened our envelope which gave us the address for our starter. Everything is a surprise - the hosts do not know who they have coming but are informed of any dietary requirements (as the only vegetarian I am a give away)...

After a very long day with a journey to and from Manchester I managed to get to the Bedworth Charter Dinner at Weston Hall halfway through the starter. I had to catch up with people between courses by visiting tables to make up for the chance I missed before the meal because of my train times. The meal was very pleasant and the venue is a great one for Rotary events. We had speeches from District Governor David, the Mayor of Bedworth and Nuneaton (he deliberately put them that way...

Paul drove back from Swindon so that we could attend his club's Christmas dinner at Nuneaton Golf Club. He collected me and Edvinas and we headed over to a warm welcome from club members and their families. We had a very relaxed evening talking with those on our table and playing with the contents of our crackers. The food was as good as ever and the chef as entertaining as you would expect the Irish to be. He entertained us with a few jokes and then people continued their round table...

Despite a cold snap a warm welcome met the Ambassadorial Scholars and Youth Exchange Student. The 3 Ambassadorial Scholars were there to speak. After each course the students moved to another table to have the chance to meet the members and their guests.
The three gave an interesting talk about sport and weddings. The great thing about this evening was to learn something about other parts of the world that many of us have never visited. They were very enthusiastic speakers and mixed well...

The Brazilian GSE team and our Lithuanian Youth Exchange student came to relax and enjoy the concert organised by Bedworth Rotary Club at the Bedworth Civic Hall. The concert featured the John Cleveland College Orchestra, Jazz Band, clarinet and flute ensembles and Barber Shop Quartet. The music was very varied and played extremely well. All were obviously well accomplished musicians and they seemed to enjoy performing to an audience.
After the interval youngsters from the Nicholas...

It took a little time to find our way to Barnacle as there was an incident down one of the roads leading to the village. Once there we had fun playing the 3 types of skittles in our teams and having a fish and chip supper. It was a well organised event by Walter who had everything sorted so the evening ran very smoothly. It was a good event and nice to encourage our team members at each skittle base. Some we did better on than others but we had fun anyway and we did manage to come...

A rush out of a work meeting meant I only just got to St. Nicholas' Church, Nuneaton on time. It was good to see many of Bob's friends from Rotary there to say goodbye and to support Jean, his widow. Two tributes - one from a long standing friend and another from Walter Jackson about his Rotary life gave a good picture of Bob. He was a generous man who knew what he wanted to do and often got it done. There were a few laughs and some tears at the loss of a friend for those who knew...

This was supposed to be the final evening for the Lithuanian Exchange students but due to volcanic ash in the atmosphere and no planes flying they are not on their way home yet. However, the evening went on and a great time was had by all. The eight frogs were let out of their box and were attached to the string needed for them to be pulled along the ground - I hasten to add no frogs were hurt during the evening (although it is reported that one lost an eye!).
Teams of 7 were created as only...

Club members, partners and guests including 2 visitors from Nuneaton Rotary Club met at the club meeting place with the snow falling (although fortunately not laying). As the expected speaker was a student who unfortunately was ill I stepped in and offered to do the talk I had done at another District's conference about my experience as a host parent to Youth Exchange students. It at least filled the speaker's slot for them and it was nice for me to see the faces of all our students up on the...

It was great to meet up with a few members of Paul's Rotary Club to plan the Frog Racing evening for the trip of the Lithuanian New Generations Exchange Group who will be with us in April. Whilst Paul and I will take them to Scotland for a week and take them to the RIBI conference they will have the chance to visit a few clubs and a local school. The Bedworth Club is hosting their leaving event on the 19th April at the Bedworth ex servicemen's Club.
The purpose of the evening was to sort out...

It is good to remind myself that I am married to a Rotarian who is one in his own right and has loyalties to his own club as I do to mine and the District. It was, therefore, very nice to go out for Sunday lunch with his club at the Terrace Bistro in Sketchley Grange. A good sized group of members and their families came together for what was a very nice meal. We had Rachel, a Peace Scholar, with us who was able to give those of us sittting near her a better picture of some of the...

A bright day with hardly a cloud in the sky met us at Shustoke reservoir where we started our gentle walk through the countryside with another family from Bedworth Rotary Club. It was amusing to see ducks and gulls walking on ice where there should have been water but around the other side of the reservoir to find swans, geese and grebes swimming and diving in the water. The frozen ground was a godsend as you could see how muddy it would normally be. The weather was perfect for a walk (not...

After a busy day it was great to come out for an evening and just relax. After managing to find the Wolvey Bowling Club I walked in on a room where there was a lot of laughter and frivolity. There were frogs jumping around the floor being pulled by strings (very badly in some cases). It was lovely to see people from Nuneaton and Tamworth Rotary Clubs there and friends of the members of Bedworth Rotary and Inner Wheel Clubs.
There was a lovely supper available to us all which was very...

My chance to sit with my husband at his own club (the longest period we have had to talk to each other for ages!). It is great to visit clubs that I have got to know over the years. Because of work commitments I had to speak over everyone's eating of their cheese and biscuits and leave before the end of the meeting.
A nice friendly club with people who have shown comitment to Rotary both in and beyond their club for many years. It was good to hear of the club's commitment to its...
