Our Club meeting was cancelled on the Wednesday so that a good number of us could visit Arbury Rotary Club on the Thursday and support our team in the District Quiz. Several members turned up for the visit which was great and it was good to see Arbury friends again.
PDG Peter Smith acted as Quiz Master for our first round. I have to admit, having heard the questions, that I was relieved to not be in the team. The questions were very hard. However, both teams worked hard and the result...

I was supposed to bring Edvinas, the Youth Exchange Student, to speak at Arbury but got a message from him on my way home to say he was ill and could he cancel. On arriving home to find him poorly I contacted Don, the Club President, and offered to do a talk instead although I would be a bit rusty as I had not practised either of them for a while. After ensuring Edvinas had everything to hand I drove across to Arbury and promptly set up my talk on my tandem dive desperately looking through my...

A short drive to Nuneaton was all it took to join in Arbury Club's Nepalese meal at one of their member's Gherka Restaurant. Members of Tamworth Club members were there as well as it was a fundraiser for their trip to India to check on matching grant projects. I remember signing the matching grant bid form for their joint project so it was nice to join them at their meal before they go off to India even if I can't unfortunately go with them. Members of other clubs were there as well as 3...

This was day 2 of 3 for Arbury's Safety Town. I have over the years heard a lot about it but never managed to see it until this year. A lovely warm day added to the event. Over the 3 days nearly 700 primary school children will have attended the event from schools mainly in Bedworth and Nuneaton. They get to look at safety in many areas e.g. the home, in water, crossing the road, electricity. They also get to go inside an ambulance and to see a large freight lorry and the safety needed...

This was an evening that was unforgettable and exceedingly entertaining. It was great to see 4 other club Presidents there and another couple of clubs represented as well as the Mayor. The venue was great, the food good and we were well looked after.
It is always difficult to know how to make your speeches different for such occasions so this time I used the titles of songs from the year of the club's formation (1978). At least it kept people listening as they tried to see how many...

We have been made so welcome by the members of Arbury Rotary Club and tonight was no exception. Over 80 people attended their Christmas meal at the Weston Hall Hotel. It was nice to see David and Bernice Robinson there as well.
The food was lovely and was served up very hot which meant it was still hot by the time everyone got their vegetables. The hotel served us well and the meal was got through pretty quickly.
After the interval we were entertained by the Fillongley Hand Bell Ringers not...

It was nice to be invited back to Arbury Club to see them induct two new members. I arrived early to meet Roger Coopey who was very generous in taking me through the GSE team briefing and debriefing meetings so that I can at least look like I know what I am doing when I meet with the team when they arrive.
The hotel put on a grand spread in the buffet - far too much for us but at least the staff would get a good meal that night. This club is a good advert for the effect of having a...

Paul and I had a really lovely evening with Arbury Rotary Club. We were made so welcome and people actually listened to my speech! No closing eyes or snoring as far as I could see or hear.
The questions were good and the club were very kind in their comments. It was lovely to be there as they made the Principal of Warwickshire and Hinckley College an honorary member.
A really lovely evening with good humour and fun.
